In Africa, like everywhere in the world, education is the foundation of a bright, strong, and successful future. Without proper funding, these children, as well as the areas they live in, will continue to struggle to survive. The hope and faith they have will be lost in a sea of missed opportunities. In 2017, the African Economic Outlook (AEO) reported sluggish economic growth in that time period. With poverty so prevalent across this continent, it is important to propose solutions that will help ease the plight of many. One important way this can be achieved is through encouraging entrepreneurship. When the government is more accepting of and encouraging of entrepreneurship, they will see an estimated 4.3 percent of economic growth. Experts believe that entrepreneurship can be exactly what Africa needs to start seeing more successful economic development on the continent.

Something that is very interesting to note is that while men in Africa typically have more privileges and opportunities than women, they also end up having lower survival rates. One reason is because women are more likely to seek out medical care than men. This could also be due to exposure of toxins in the workplace. There is more of a focus on HIV/AIDS for men’s healthcare in Africa, but there are many other concerns that need to be addressed like accessibility.
Did you know that the overall female life expectancy is about 80 years? This is the case in over 46 countries. However, in the WHO African region, the female life expectancy is only about 58 years. There are also concerns from sexual assaults, which can be a major concern depending on where they live. These assaults often lead to pregnancy and STD’s. In many African countries, there is limited access to family planning methods like contraception. Another major concern for women in Africa is cervical cancer, where more than 90 percent of the deaths occur in women who reside in low-income or middle-income countries.
There have been some significant improvements to the child mortality rate in Africa in recent years, but the numbers are still disturbing. In 2011, it was estimated that 6 children die every minute. In sub-Saharan Africa, 1 in 9 children dies before the age of 5. A lot of these deaths are related to undernutrition, meaning that nutrition programs can have a massive impact here. Lack of proper nutrition is linked to various diseases and nutritional deficiencies that can kill children. There are organizations that are trying to improve the nutrition in the area, helping to not only feed the children but to educate the population on how to eat well.
Healthcare is a concern for people across the globe, but it can be particularly concerning to those who live in Africa. Our health is our most precious gift—one that is often overlooked until illness or disease strikes. This is never truer than here in Africa where resources, skilled care teams, and medicines are often scarce.
In a country filled with illnesses that wreak havoc on families and communities, such as AIDS, Malaria and other diseases that are communicable in nature, it can be hard to treat these illnesses in rural and distant villages. While technology and innovation are changing the global healthcare grid work, Africa still suffers greatly in this area.
It’s more than just dealing with epidemics like malaria or HIV/AIDS. There are many concerns that need to be addressed in Africa so that people can live happier and healthier lives.
Discrimination against women has been an issue for a long time in Africa. Today, people realize that empowering women can be such an important way to end poverty in Africa. Studies have shown that girls who are healthy and get an education will be able to take on leadership roles and earn their own income. As gender equality gets resolved, poverty can be dramatically reduced.
It is estimated that just in South Africa, there is a homelessness population of about 200,000. The homelessness issue in this country has been linked back to the apartheid period in the country’s history. Today, this issue is as a result of several factors including: social and economic policies, increasing unemployment, social disintegration, and a lack of affordable housing. In some areas, this is a problem that is viewed as a social dependency issue. This has led these areas to use social interventions. The homeless population in this country believes that more employment opportunities and centrally located affordable housing would work wonders to resolve this issue. You may find that this is the case across the continent as well.
Human rights offenses in Africa are a common occurrence, which is why organizations are trying to improve the situation, especially for women. We hope that these initiatives will help improve the human rights situation on the continent.
